Jan Kopinski's Reflektor Mirrors
JSLCD005 ****
When "fusion" was generally synonymous with sell out, I always enjoyed
Pinski Zoo, because, like Trevor Watts' Amalgam, it made music that reflected
personal vision rather than financial expediency.
Well, Jan Kopinski has been making his music for many years, & has moved
well beyond Pinski Zoo, which I enjoyed despite its relentless approach to
sound, (a cross between Albert Ayler & PIL, I thought).
This is Kopinski's latest cd, & though it has some of Pinski Zoo's attributes,
it also has extended passages of a reflective nature, even gentle folksiness.
Emphatically not of the jazz mainstream, but very fine music that is full of
shifting moods. The occasional use of pre recorded sounds fit in well with
Kopinski's Polish musical odyssey.
