Jan Kopinski's Reflektor
MIRRORS
It's been many years and several magazines since I shared a pizza and the weakest
beer with Jan Kopinski's Pinski Zoo in Cannes (long story)
and the saxman/composer's music has taken many interesting turns since
then, most recently in the form of 'Mirrors'(33 Records/JSL) in which his
current band Reflektor (which includes his son and daughter;
surely the Dankworths of the musical slipstream) performs a movingly personal,
introspective chamber/jazz suite commissioned by Opera North Projects
as a mixed-media piece and recorded under the Jazz Services Recording Support
scheme. Profound and sincere, the music wears its devotional/folk influences
with style and grace.
